ESG project at Phoenix Indian Medical Center wins FEMP FEDS Spotlight Award
Phoenix, Arizona – Executing the first Utility Energy Services Contract (UESC) in Indian Health Service’s history at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center (PIMC), the National Indian Health Service and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services partnered with Southwest Gas and ENERGY SYSTEMS GROUP® (ESG) to implement comprehensive energy and resilience measures. The UESC projects, totaling more than $11.3 million, included the installation of boiler and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning improvements; lighting and water system upgrades; and a 250 kWh solar photovoltaic system. The first phase of the project resulted in savings of 9.4 billion British thermal units (Btu) and $282,000 annually and reductions in net usage of 24 percent in grid electricity, 50 percent in water, and 3 percent in natural gas.
The Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) FEDS Spotlight Awards provide an opportunity for agencies to shine a spotlight on federal employees working to implement programs and projects that cut energy waste, reduce costs, optimize performance, and advance America’s progress toward energy independence, resilience, and security, while also enabling more effective accomplishments of federal agencies’ missions.
